Nest

The NIDO program was initiated with the objective of strengthening the affective and maternal bonds between mothers deprived of liberty and their daughters (es-os) , during upbringing in a penitentiary context.

Nest Encounters

The Nido Encounters are co-created spaces designed to foster connections between incarcerated mothers and their children at the Valparaíso Cultural Park, formerly a prison. These encounters take place on significant dates, such as Mother's Day, Children's Day, and Christmas—moments imbued with symbolic value that become key opportunities for family reconnection.

The goal is to create a safe environment that fosters remembrance, promoting a restorative and community-based approach through artistic and cultural activities that strengthen family bonds. As a community, we manage the logistics for transporting incarcerated women and their families from various locations, ensuring their safety, appropriate scheduling, and the well-being of our entire community.

It arises as a direct response to the need to create safe spaces for children, developing a reunion this time in freedom with the arts and cultures as a tool for connection , containment and community building as a support network.

By acknowledging and denormalizing the harm that prison causes to family relationships, it promotes respectful parenting and the prevention and denormalization of gender-based violence against women. Furthermore, it establishes a permanent support system for mothers, fostering the development of their skills and resources, and for children, offering nurturing encounters that promote their cultural rights and participation.

Workshop on denormalizing gender-based violence and motherhood

In parallel and linked to the significant encounters, a permanent workshop space with a reparative focus has been created, through the arts and cultures, aimed at women mothers deprived of liberty who participate in these encounters to reunite with their daughters and families.

The objective of this space is to denormalize gender-based violence against women, problematize the diverse experiences and social constructions of motherhood, and strengthen maternal skills, valuing the work of each mother based on her parenting experience.

Likewise, the permanence and continuity of the women deprived of liberty who participate in this program allows for direct participation in the construction of the Nido meetings.
